Question

Answer this honestly please...

If you were a starving child somewhere in the world, do you think you would feel better or worse if you knew that someone who could eat all they wanted decided not to because they felt sorry for you?

No worries, I'm not going to stop eating because of the kids I saw and know in Haiti, I was just wondering what other people thought about this.

What would be the point? Feeling sorry for someone doesn't change their situation. You have to DO something for it to make a difference...
So I guess if I were the starving child I would be thinking the other child was just crazy. Not better or worse.

I thought the same thing tonight when we went out to eat at a buffet place. It tore my heart out. It just made me realize I need to not eat, eat, eat but be sensible...

I agree with Jennifer. If a starving child saw that you had food and weren't eating, I think they would wonder what in the world you were thinking.

To not eat, a person would be doing it more for themselves - maybe to ease the guilt of how much they have. That's my honest opinion.

I do think that we need to be careful with what we do have. Like Brenda said, we shouldn't eat and eat and eat, just because it's there.

I had a different opinion until I read Jennifer's and now I have changed my mind. I think for a child to see someone who has everything they want and not make proper use of it would be more destructive. However, like it's been said, those with plenty should be grateful for what they have. Maybe if someone who had all they could eat partcipated in 30 hour Famine or something similar to make a difference to a child who has less...
